The Roman Architecture plagiar from the greek architecture?
The Roman was 1 of the greatest empire of the worlds and it's aspect of architecture are still affecting the world of todays.
However
is it the roman architecture are truely originated by their own mind ?
Perhaps, what we could say is the roman occupied what they saw and learn
from other cultural to their own design.
one of the most obvious
method from the Greek architecture occupied by the Romans is the
column, the doric ionic and corinthian.
However,
Different from the Greek, by using of the system , the romans could come
out with different type of building design depends of it's function.
The
Greek 's building form are mostly look like a box with their post and
beam system, every building look's similar althought they have different
function and activities.
For the Roman architecture is more accurately reflected in the development
of
new engineering skills . The Romans also introduced new ways to
construct a more efficient building and a entirely different purpose for
the building to be built.
The most common building for
the Greek architecture was it's temple. ,In comparison with the Romans
temple, the Roman style was more predominantly seen
in public
dwellings and social gathering areas, such as basilicas and forums.
however , most of the Roman temple could be say directly imitate from
the greek architecture, the similarity shown in picture below., with the
exception of the dome pantheon.

Beside,
the building method for the roman Architecture are also different from
the greek architeture. The Greek architecture commonly use post and
lintel system for theirl building construction. A very easy to build
method but not very strong enought. However , as the roman civilazation
grown much bigger and bigger, the building size to fulfill their
resident amount for activities such as meeting and marketing also become
much bigger. and this presented the use of colomns as the bigger
building, more columns are needed.
As the solution for that, the romans get involved and started the engineering system - the arch system.
By using arches instead of columns and beams, the weight of the structure was
spread evenly out and toward the ground rather than directly down on the beam.
This
make the building could support more dead loads and the number of the
columns are also decrease, provide more space to the interior of the
building.
by using the networking of the arches, the dome method
was then invented , and been pratically use in design of pantheon-a
circular dome that was the temple to the gods.
The superior
engineering skills of the Romans truly played a major role in their
architecture and set it apart from their Greek counterparts.
Althought
the origin ideal is come from the Greek, however the romans are
innovative and smart enought to organize and improve the ideas. Same as
today, the reason we do precendent study before we start our design, we
get the idea from the building that we were study , find out the
advantage and weaknesses, and then improve the design and avoid to
repeat the weakness that we ve found. That is what the function of
history in design of architecture.In conclusion, The Greek architecture
architecture might be the prototype of the Roman architecture, however
the Roman
develop it by their own ways by introduce different type
of method and system, The Romans is just refering to the Greek
architecture, but not doing plagiarism.
